Who we are

Welcome letter

For me it is a great pleasure to extend this welcome to all those who have come to know the International Juvenile Justice Observatory as the expression of their interest in the treatment received by minors and young people around the world who are in conflict with the law.

The International Juvenile Justice Observatory, with its headquarters in Brussels, was founded in 2002 with the goal of encouraging a global juvenile justice without borders, and since then it has been gradually taking shape around different distinguishing features.

Among these identifying features, I would like to highlight the website, conceived in principle as an international platform for the exchange of knowledge and good practice between professionals, organizations, administrations and others, and which is currently a space in which to share and get to know the comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to the conception of juvenile justice as promoted by the Observatory.

The International Juvenile Justice Observatory carries out a variety of action lines with these goals in mind, from among which I must draw attention to the promotion of legal instruments and strategies on an international level, participation in research projects, the development of training actions and the holding of congresses and conferences, notably the IJJO International Conference, which brings together professionals and experts on the most relevant subjects in the fields of delinquency and juvenile justice in the world.

I would also like to stress that the Observatory offers all interested parties the chance to actively participate in the development of an international network dedicated to promoting an international juvenile justice adapted to the rules and minimum standards agreed by international organizations in the fields of delinquency and juvenile justice, thus providing a space for dialogue and coordination between joint actions.

Lastly, I encourage you to actively collaborate with the International Juvenile Justice Observatory in working towards a global juvenile justice without borders.
